Virtual launch of new book on city and community leadership beyond COVID-19
8 October at 17:00 - 18:00 BST
On 8 October 2020, the Bristol Festival of Ideas is hosting a ‘virtual’ launch of a new book by Robin Hambleton. To be published by Bristol University Press, Cities and communities beyond COVID-19. How local leadership can change our future for the better explains how local, or civic, leadership has a crucial role to play in helping societies recover from the pandemic and address modern societal challenges.
In this ‘virtual’ session Andrew Kelly, Director of the Festival, will chair a discussion in which Robin will discuss the ideas set out in the book with Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, and Sheila Foster, Professor of Urban Law and Policy at Georgetown University, Washington DC.
Robin argues that place-based leadership is now essential to tackle the four major challenges societies now face: the COVID-19 health emergency, a very sharp economic downturn arising from the pandemic, the global climate emergency, and deep-seated social, economic and racial inequality.
